I was annoyed at how the original Timemore hopper was to use, because without the lid, beans would fly everywhere while grinding, and with the lid, it was hard to pour. I addressed this with the extended hopper design. It was very effective, but left the original shallow slope feed. So I set out to design a total hopper replacement.
This full hopper replacement went through 5 overall hopper design concepts and several iterations within each to give a consistent feed and reduce popcorning, eliminating lost beans when pouring with the lid fully off and the machine running. The results are achieved through a spiral feed that narrows down to a pair of openings that combined are just 1/2 the area of the original feed into the auger.
